About the Society
A professional home for geoscientists advancing the understanding of Zimbabwe's remarkable geology.
The Geological Society of Zimbabwe was founded in 1981 and is the professional body representing geoscientists in Zimbabwe. Its primary objectives are to promote geological research, teaching, exploration and mining in Zimbabwe.
The Society acts as a forum for geological talks and field trips, bringing together professionals, academics and students who share a passion for the earth sciences. Through its symposia, memorial lectures, newsletters and publications, the Society advances the understanding of Zimbabwe's rich and varied geology.
Zimbabwe hosts some of the oldest and most instructive geology on Earth, from the Archaean greenstone belts and the world-renowned Great Dyke to significant gold, platinum-group-metal, chrome, and lithium resources. The Society exists to document, share and celebrate this heritage.
Constitution
The primary objectives of the Geological Society of Zimbabwe are to promote geological research, teaching, exploration and mining in Zimbabwe. It acts as a forum for geological talks and field trips.
The Society is governed by a Constitution and managed by an elected Committee. Members are encouraged to participate in the Society's activities, contribute to its publications, and uphold the professional standards of the geoscience community in Zimbabwe.
